THE Angus rising two-year-old bull sales season got off to a flying start at Ratanui Angus at Tuai inland from Wairoa yesterday afternoon with a solid average and a top price of $20,000.

The Story family relocated to their new property from Tauwhareparae during the past year and this was their first sale on-farm at their new home.

The stud sold all 27 of the young bulls it put up for a total clearance.

The average across the sales was a very healthy $11,444.

Turiroa Angus in Wairoa snapped up the top-priced bull at $20,000, sold on transfer, and the Dandaloo Angus stud from the Wairarapa bought the next best priced animal at $17,500, also sold on transfer.

“This was a strong start to the Angus sales in the region,” said PGG Wrightson genetics representative Emma Pollitt.

“There was solid local support as well as from further afield.

“Credit to the Story family for presenting a team of well-furnished, well-behaved bulls,” she said.

“It was a great sale.”

Bull Week begins on Monday at Tangihau Angus on-farm at Rere from 10am, then it will be the combined sale at Matawhero saleyards with bulls from Orere Angus, Tawa Hills Angus, Cricklewood Angus and Waimata Angus, and in the afternoon and evening it will be the turn of Kaharau Angus in Goodwin Road.
