Colorado State University Internship

An exciting opportunity has come up for a young New Zealander to work an internship at Colorado State University in a joint venture between the university and Angus NZ. 

The internship opportunity is a paid position and will be an annual offering with the first starting in January 2025.

Mark Enns of Colorado State University and Andrew Law from Angus NZ have been working on the proposal and are nailing down the last few details.  Expressions of interest close soon, so get in touch. (details below).

Outline of the internship follows below:

  • Internship will be January – May
  • Most of the time will be spent at the Colorado State University Farm in Wyoming – here the intern will be involved in winter feeding and cow monitoring, calving heifers and cows, calf health monitoring, PAP and Breeding Soundness exams as bulls are prepared for the April bull sale, heifer pelvic and PAP measures, hay/meadow prep for spring, synchronization and AI of heifers.
  • Housing provided and shared with another intern, expected to buy own groceries.
  • Visit the National Western Stock show in Denver for a few days in January too.
  • Visit Angus America in St Joseph’s
  • Depending on the age of the intern they could join some of the National Junior Angus Events.
  • 3 or 4 days at the University in Fort Collins, Colorado. This could be extended to visit with some cattle processing at our university farm just out of town where they do the feed intake, methane measures, etcIt could also be extended for high-impact events that may be on at that time of year and also possibly a couple days travelling with their pulmonary hypertension expert, Dr. Tim Holt.
  • Colorado State University will pay the intern $2,500 (including tax) per month
