ANGUS SHINE AT QUEEN OF HEARTS HEIFER SALE
The strength of interest in the Angus breed was again illustrated at the Claas Queen of hearts Heifer Sale held at the Beef +Lamb New Zealand Beef Expo with nine Angus heifers entered – all of which sold. KayJay Angel 403 won the overall event in the show ring as well as the sale ring where it sold for the top price of $8500.

A new introduction to the Beef and Lamb NZ Beef Expo in 2011, the ‘Queen of Hearts’ auction of yearling heifers of all breeds is proving to be very popular with those looking to bolster their herds with top genetics from other well-known and well established studs.
A large crowd made up of people from all breeds gathered in the stands to watch the show, where Judge Ian Brown and Assistant Max Tweedie had their work cut out for them in analysing and assessing all twenty entries before picking their top five heifers.
Champion Heifer, Kayjay Angel 403, bred by Neil and Joan Kjestrup of Kayjay Angus Stud in the Wairarapa sold to the Blue Duck Angus Stud in Kaikoura.
Second place was another Angus heifer, Oakview 141, bred by Alan and Patricia Hayward of Oakview Angus Stud in Cambridge, which sold to the Red Oak Angus in Weka Pass in North Canterbury.
Following the Show the crowd moved to the Sale Rostrum and witnessed a very good bench of buyers purchase most of the heifers offered.
Overall, twenty animals were sold with a turnover of $68600 to an average of $3430
