THE LAUNCH OF ANGUSPURE SOURCE AND TRACE (APST)

                                             The AngusPure Source and Trace programme launch held at the Royal
                                                        Show in Christchurch on Wednesday 11th November 2009.

 AngusPure Ltd through its partnership with Silver Fern Farms (SFF), Anzco and McDonalds is responsible for the ‘verification’ of the animals going into the MacAngus  program in New Zealand.

To achieve this, AngusPure Ltd has contracted Performance Beef Breeders New Zealand (PBBnz) to administer for them a program that is capable of tracing and recording Angus and Angus cross animals from birth through to slaughter and beyond.

This requires a centralised database, a centralised server, a visual form of identifying the animals, a means to read the ident and a software program to record it all on.

This has been achieved through the development of a new industry program;

‘AngusPure Source and Trace’ (APST).

1. To qualify for this program cattle need to be 100% Angus to a minimum 75% Angus and be the progeny of a ‘registered or PRAC’ Angus sire.
2. They will be tagged with electronic tags with AHB information on the yellow front tag and the AngusPure logo ‘A’ on the black rear tag to identify they are part of this program.
3. All information regarding this program will be held at the PBBnz office at 75 South Street, Feilding.
4. Tags can only be purchased through PBBnz and they have full AHB approval.
5. All information gathered in the lifetime of the animal carrying the tag will go back to PBBnz and find its way through the system or the software program into the BREEDPLAN database to further enhance the accuracy of the EBVs of registered sire and dam.

 AngusPure Source and Trace (APST) was officially launched to the beef industry at a function held last Wednesday at the Canterbury Royal Show at Canterbury Park in Christchurch by Chairman of APST Tim Brittain and General Manager of PBBnz Murray Meads.

Held on the cattle lawn at the Angus New Zealand tent, Angus NZ members, commercial farmers (who have committed to the program already), industry related people and members of the press were present to learn about a program that could well be one of the the first ‘Meat Industry Standards’ to be implemented for the New Zealand meat industry.
