2009 CANTERBURY ROYAL SHOW - NOVEMBER 11TH - 13TH.
Judge: John Murray- Woodbank Angus.
Associate Judge: Jonno Reed - Grampian Angus.
Variable weather conditions throughout the 3 day event at Canterbury Park did not detract from a very good competition for those 8 Angus breeders who brought 37 animals to the 2009 Canterbury Royal Show.
This quality was carried through to the Inter-breed and All-breed competitions where Angus entrants performed very well also.
Right through all classes there was very good quality representation of the breed with all entrants sharing in the prize money that was donated by our 6 sponsors;
Merial/Ancare NZ Ltd
Five Star Beef Ltd
Xcell Breeding Centre Ltd
EmbryoCo Ltd
Jordans Nursery
Whisky Galore/HL Milne Ltd
Aberdeen Angus Society.
One feature of the Angus Show was the participation in the ring of so many of the 'youth' members of the region - in every breeders stable there was more than one and in many, mutiple numbers of young working with the animals - an exciting snap shot of the future for the Angus breed and indeed the beef industry as a whole, because when the mixed competitions came around there were equally as many young people involved with the other breeds as well.
Getting back to the Angus show though, the Champion Angus Bull and outright winner or Supreme Champion Angus for 2009 was Clarence and Linda Timperley and family's 'Timperlea Fighter 66', a 3year old Angus bull by Waiterenui Grunter 513 and out of Timperlea Dazzle 22, who also went on to win the Allbreeds title of Senior Bull against very stiff competition including the Meat & Wool champion for 2009 and placed 3rd in the Meat & Wool Cup.
In being crowned Supreme Champion Angus, Timperlea Fighter 66 was awarded: the Aberdeen Angus Society Sash, $250 from Merial Ancare NZ Ltd, 1 litre of Whisky from Whisky Galore Ltd, RAS Gold Medal, RAS Maismore Perpetual Trophy, and the Angus Society of Scotland Challenge Cup.
