2005 Royal Show Report

WAIKATO ROYAL SHOW
~  28th – 30th October 2005  ~

This event was held at the Waikato venue Claudlands in Hamilton over three days from Friday 28th – Sunday 30th October 2005.

Royal Show 2005

Situated in really pleasant surroundings beside the three cattle rings we were well supported by the Ward 2 members who supplied us with AngusPure beef, assorted food and refreshments as well as their individual help.

FMG had loaned and erected their marquee for this occasion.

Angus led the show off with their individual section and it was good to see keen competition in the yearling bull and yearling heifer sections.

The Angus competitors did well in the interbreed section with Bruce Bevege starring with both his yearling bull and 2yr old heifer and calf by taking out 2nd in both their events.

Further to this Bruce went on to gain 2nd in the Allbreeds yearling bull class and 3rd in the 2yr heifer with its calf.

Well done to all exhibitors and thank you from the Association for representing the Angus breed at this event.

Peewees

It was a major disappointment for organiser Katherine Rawnsley and parents of the youngsters that the ‘Peewee Handlers’ had to wait until 6.45pm before it was there turn in the ring.
Many went home because it was so late, but those that stayed enjoyed showing off their cattle (as the photos show in the Youth Section).

All participated well and had gone to a lot of trouble to have their animals ready for the day.
The NZ Angus Youth Charitable Trust supported this event and rosettes and prizes were given to all who took part.

The Peewee judging was also supported by NZ Angus Youth Charitable Trust and those participating there.

A point of note:
Mr D H Jones was attending his 50th year at the Waikato Show and his 81st year of showing and participating in shows.

In 1920 at the age of four, he started riding horses at the Ellsmere Show just east of Christchurch.

In all these years he has been a keen exhibitor of cattle and merinos.
