IMPORTING AND EXPORTING

This section outlines provisions to verify the health and registration status of cattle and genetic material entering and leaving New Zealand. It also seeks to protect the reputation of NZ Angus abroad.

6.1 Importing Live Animals
The Registrar must be notified in writing within one month of the importation of any Pedigree Angus animal into New Zealand. Such notification facilitates registration in the New Zealand Herd Book and must be accompanied by the following information:
Pedigree Certificate from country of origin or from exporting country signed by an agent of the Association in whose Herd Book the animal was first registered. The Breeder in whose herd the animal was calved must be given.
DNA profile of the said animal.
Certificate stating that the animal has been tested free of Mannosidosis and any other genetic disorder for which the Council may require testing.
Veterinary certificate from country of origin stating that the animal was free of any genetic defects.

6.2 Importing Genetic Material
The Registrar must be notified in writing within one month of the importation of any semen or embryo into New Zealand. Such notification facilitates registration in the New Zealand Herd Book and must be accompanied by the following information:

Semen:
Pedigree Certificate of the animal from whom semen is being imported signed by an agent of the Association in whose Herd Book the animal was first registered. The certificate must give extended pedigree of the animal including herd book numbers. The name of the Breeder in whose herd the animal was calved must be given.
DNA profile of the said animal.
Certificate stating that the animal from whom semen was drawn has been tested free of Mannosidosis and any other genetic disorder for which the Council may require testing.
Veterinary certificate from the country of origin stating that the animal from whom semen was drawn is free of any genetic defects.

Embryos:
A certificate of embryo transfer as supplied by a recognised transplant centre must be supplied along with Pedigree Certificates which must be signed by an agent of the association in whose herd book the donor sire and donor dam were first registered. The certificates must give extended pedigree of the donor sire and donor dam including herd book numbers. The name of the Breeder of the donor sire and the donor dam in whose herd the animals were calved must be given.
DNA profile of donor sire and of donor dam must be supplied to the Association.
Certificate stating that the donor sire and donor dam have been tested free of Mannosidosis and any other genetic disorder for which the Council may require testing.
Veterinary certificate from country of origin stating that both the donor sire and donor dam are free of any genetic defects.

6.3 Exporting Live Animals
All calves including calves under the age of four months, to be exported must be tattooed, freeze branded and/or fire-branded and registered with the Association in the year of departure.
A Transfer fee and an Export Certificate Fee is payable by the vendor to the Association. (See Schedule of Fees)
