Identification
Any pedigree animal that is not identifiable at all times
will lose its pedigree status, hence it is essential that you meet the
current identification standards set by the Association Council &
Animal Health Board (AHB), by double tagging all cattle (see tagging details)
and by either Branding OR Tattooing all pedigree animals.
The offspring of any pedigree animals are recorded on the
calf entry sheet of the pedigree herd in which they are born. An example
is shown below.
Eg Heifer 100 (Daisy) born in 2000 to Sunshine Farm (herd
number 12345) would be recorded on the pedigree register as follows:
12345
Herd Number
1
Heifer
(0 for a bull) (1 for a heifer)
00
Birth Year
100
Private/Station Number
this number is referred to as the animals herd book number
-12345100100
Her registered name would be as follows:
Sunshine
Herd Prefix / farm Name
Daisy
Animal Name
100
Private/Station Number
The animals name and identification number are retained
for life regardless of transfer or sale.
The New Zealand Angus Association council have set the breeds
tagging standards in line with those laid down by the Animal Health board.
ie All pedigree animals must carry both a Primary and Secondary
tag - The Primary tag must carry the private animal number on the front
face (female tag) -an example is shown below.

> It is not necessary to have a note of your Association herd number
shown anywhere on your tags.
> All cattle exhibited at any Shows and Sales must carry both a legible
Primary & Secondary tag. (Although an exemption ticket may be available
from the appropriate entity.)
If you have any doubts as to whether you are meeting
the present Association requirements, please contact the office, the staff
are well-versed with all tagging regulations and can also order your tags
for you at very competitive rates.
