History made at Rangatira Angus Stud bull sale!

History was made this morning at Charles and Susan Dowding’s, Rangatira Angus Stud bull sale in Muriwai, Gisborne.  Rangatira 13-38 (Lot 18), the Angus bull born 14/08/2013 and sired by Mt Mable Thor 660, has sold for a whopping $100,000!

This is a first in New Zealand, as no bull of any breed has ever sold for such a price at an on-farm sale. The sale auctioneer was Bruce Orr, Genetics Manager at PGG Wrighston Ltd.

Five bulls reached auction prices of over $37,000 and all 61 of the bulls offered were sold, reaching an average price of $10,969.

Background:
Rangatira Angus was founded in 1960 by John and Shirley Dowding at Rangatira, Te Karaka. The stud continues to be run by Charlie and Susie Dowding who have been breeding Angus Stud cattle for many years, initially as Rangatira Angus. In 1999, Colin and Jackie Williams; Susie’s parents very generously offered Charlie and Susie the opportunity to farm and breed Kaharau Stud cattle at Coventry Station. Alistair MacPherson and Dollar Maxwell have made an enormous contribution to the running of the farms and the stud. this year saw the return of the original stud prefix, Rangatira Angus.
